Five priorities shaping the future of Balmoral Tanks

Following the recent appointment of Paul Edwards as Managing Director, Balmoral Tanks is entering an exciting new chapter focused on delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining the highest standards of quality and supporting customers operating in some of the world's fastest-growing infrastructure sectors.

Bringing more than 30 years' experience leading engineering and manufacturing businesses across the UK, Europe and Asia, Paul has built a strong reputation for driving operational excellence, profitable growth and long-term customer relationships.

Having held senior leadership roles across complex industrial organisations, he joins Balmoral Tanks at a time when demand for reliable bulk commodity storage solutions continues to grow across sectors including water, aquaculture, data centres and renewable energy.

As the business continues to build on more than four decades of engineering expertise and innovation, Paul has identified five priorities that will shape Balmoral Tanks' future while reinforcing its reputation for quality, reliability and customer service.

1 Delivering industry-leading customer service and quality

Balmoral Tanks’ commitment to delivering a customer-first service remains unchanged. The business prides itself on providing a seamless customer experience at every stage of a project, from initial consultation and design through to manufacture, installation and ongoing support.

By navigating challenges, maintaining clear communication and focusing on quality, Paul believes Balmoral Tanks will continue to successfully deliver tailored storage tank solutions, while continuing to work with long-term customers and partners.

“About 80% of our revenue is generated from repeat business, so good quality customer service is everything,” Paul explained.

“Service and quality are remembered long after the price So, if we service our clients and partners well, then we will always have a business.”

2 Supporting customers in high-growth markets

As industries evolve and demand for infrastructure increases, Balmoral Tanks is focused on ensuring it remains well positioned to support customers operating in both established and emerging sectors.

From sustainable aquaculture projects to the rapid expansion of data centres, and the need for more carbon neutral infrastructure, growing demand is creating new opportunities for water storage solutions across a range of sectors.

As part of Balmoral Tanks’ strategic plans, Paul explained the business is focussed on how it can further strengthen its presence in these growing sectors, while continuing to support customers with technical expertise and sector-specific experience.

He said: “We know that our overall market demand is growing and new markets are emerging, for example sustainable fish farming in aquaculture.

“Data centres are also a growing market, and they need a lot of water, so the need for more storage tanks is inevitable. We are looking at how we can tailor our approach to connect more effectively with these markets.”

By investing in the emerging markets, Balmoral Tanks aims to ensure customers have access to the expertise, products and support they need.

3 Creating a clear vision for sustainable growth

Balmoral Tanks has a clear ambition to significantly increase the scale of the business by 2030, with a continued commitment to delivering exceptional value for customers.

Achieving that growth starts with a clear and compelling vision that aligns the entire organisation behind a shared objective.

“The ambition is clear, to strengthen Balmoral Tanks' position as a leading provider of bulk commodity storage tank solutions, while continuing to deliver the quality, reliability and service our customers expect,” says Paul.

“We all want to be the best at what we do, but I want to ensure we have a compelling vision that’s clear and measurable and that ignites the possibilities for this business

“Having a compelling vision within a 3 to 5 year horizon helps to motivate our employees and ensure everyone is aligned.

“From there we can develop a more detailed strategy – our roadmap – which sets out the specific actions and steps we need to take to get us to our destination.”

4 Harnessing technology and innovation

Investing in technology will be a key priority for Balmoral Tanks through Paul’s strategic vision. He believes enhanced forecasting capabilities will play a vital role in ensuring the business can continue to successfully meet customer expectations and deliver projects on-time and to the highest standards.

“We have identified opportunities to streamline a number of our internal processes which could be optimised through new systems. This will help us to improve efficiency and increase visibility across projects,” said Paul.

Paul is also keen to lean into and embrace new technologies such as AI, he explained: “We’re intending to set up an internal multi-functional project team to explore AI as I’m curious about how it could improve our outputs.

“We aim to identify ways to improve forecasting, planning and decision-making, enabling us to respond even more effectively to customer demand.”

Looking ahead to growth and innovation across the pond in the United States, Paul stated that Balmoral Tanks’ U.S. facility will also see further investment as the business is committed to strengthening is presence in the region.

Balmoral Tanks previously announced the expansion of its production capabilities into the United States, with the launch of its U.S. business and the opening of its operations facility in north-east Ohio.

“We are striving to establish ourselves as a long-term, trusted partner in the United States,” says Paul.

5 Investing in people to deliver exceptional results

Paul believes investing in people is fundamental to delivering the high levels of service, quality and reliability that customers expect. When teams feel heard, valued and empowered, they are better equipped to solve problems and provide the best customer experience.

“One of my first priorities is to ensure that we have a culture of psychological safety,” said Paul.

“That means everyone has a voice, people are comfortable sharing their views, and we can challenge each other constructively.”

Paul sees leadership as being actively involved with the team rather than directing from a distance. “Ultimately, while I lead decision making, I’m very much a team player,” he says.

“Much like the captain of a football team, the captain is on the pitch with the players, understanding their challenges and working alongside their team mates.

“I am part of the team – I’m not an off-field coach, and so I believe I can help people to perform at their best. Our customers will benefit from that in every step of the journey.”
